They say that accidents happen. But when it comes to coffee stains on your beautiful carpet, those accidents can feel anything but accidental.

We’ve all been there. You’re enjoying a nice cup of joe and you take a sip, only to flinch as the hot liquid hits your lap. You frantically grab for anything within reach to sop up the mess, but it’s too late—you now have a coffee stain on your beautiful carpet. While it may seem like a lost cause, there is hope! With a little elbow grease and the right tools, those pesky coffee stains will be gone before you know it and by following these simple steps, you’ll have that stain removed in no time.

Step One: Blot, Don’t Rub!

As tempting as it is to scrub at the stain vigorously, this will only serve to spread the coffee further and make the stain harder to remove. Instead, gently blot the area with a clean cloth or paper towel. Apply pressure to lift as much of the coffee as possible.

Step Two: Time to Treat

Once you’ve blotted up as much coffee as you can, it’s time to treat the stain. There are a few household items that can do the trick, such as dish soap, vinegar, or hydrogen peroxide. Simply apply your chosen solution to the stain and allow it to sit for 5-10 minutes.

After that time has elapsed, blot the area again with a clean cloth or paper towel to remove any residue.
If the stain persists, you can repeat this step until it is completely removed. Just be sure not to overdo it—too much treatment can damage your carpet fibers.
