Some recipes also call for flavoring agents such as vanilla extract or cinnamon. In contrast to its name, coffee cake generally contains very little, if any coffee.

In my humble opinion, there are few things more delicious than a freshly-baked coffee cake. The combination of sweet, moist cake and rich, crumbly topping is truly irresistible.
